About Ajmaraya Alpaca Stud

Passion, highest welfare, and respect for nature in the heart of the Opawskie Mountains.

About Our Alpaca Herd

Ajmaraya Alpaca Stud currently comprises 38 alpacas (14 males and 24 females). Alpacas are classified into two distinct breeds: Huacaya (featuring dense, crimped, springy fleece like a teddy bear) and Suri (with silky, lustrous dreadlock-like pencils hanging gracefully along the body). Our stud proudly nurtures both varieties: 25 Huacaya and 13 Suri.

From their very first days, our alpacas are accustomed to human contact, gently halter-trained, and carefully socialised. Selected animals from our stud take part in therapeutic sessions (animal-assisted interventions) conducted by the Llamerada Foundation. Our alpacas adore crisp carrots, which serve as their favourite healthy treat!

Stud Origins (Established 2017)

Stud Origins (Established 2017)

It all started from a passion for organic gardening and the quest for the highest grade natural fertilizer. The initial question was: perhaps dairy goats, perhaps horses...? Alpacas turned out to be the ultimate answer and true love at first sight. In 2017, the first six alpacas arrived straight from Chile: one stud male and five females. Today, our thriving mountain herd numbers nearly 40 pedigree specimens.

Cria Births in 2024

Every summer season, our pastures are blessed with new crias. In 2024, our farm welcomed 5 magnificent crias: Mimi Mamba, Chacha, Amber, Rambo, and Ringo. Watching their energetic first bounds across the lush green paddocks is the ultimate reward for our rigorous, loving husbandry.

What Does the Name Ajmaraya Mean?

The Aymara (Ajmara) are an indigenous South American civilization inhabiting the high Andean altiplano of modern Peru, Bolivia, and Chile. For thousands of years, they lived in deep spiritual harmony with the mountain environment, domesticating camelids, mastering the art of textile weaving, and cultivating the land with supreme respect for Mother Earth (Pachamama).

Spiritual Beliefs of the Aymara People

The Aymara people honour guardian spirits of nature: Ap'alani (the celestial spirit who delivers life-giving rain and agricultural abundance) and Ipoqapaqa – the mythical mountain protector regarded as the rightful keeper of all alpacas, llamas, and wild vicuñas. The name of our stud is a tribute to this ancient Andean covenant between humanity, nature, and noble camelids.
